Dr. Isabel Cumandra
Scarborough Dentist, D.D.S.
Ever since I can remember, I have always wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps and become a dentist. At the age of 3 I would beg my dad to let me go to work with him, when he would let me, I would spend the day without complaining. As I grew up, I never wavered with what I wanted to do. I completed 3 years of an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Western Ontario when I was offered early acceptance into dental school at the University of Toronto. This was a dream come true for me. Years of dreaming and working towards becoming a dentist and to top it off, I was accepted into the same school my father went to!
During my time in dental school, I was selected as one of 5 students to work in the summer Emergency Clinic. I was also selected for a rotation to provide dental care to the First Nations community in Moose Factory, Ontario. I was involved with the student council and was elected Vice President of the Dental Student Society in my final year. In 2015, I graduated from Dental School with Honours and received the Cressy Award for Student Leadership.
Since graduating, I have been working alongside my father at ScarboroSmiles where he has been an amazing mentor. I teach future dentists part time as a Clinical Instructor in Restorative Dentistry at the University of Toronto. I also have a passion for continued learning.
I find dentistry extremely rewarding, there is nothing better than the feeling of helping patients. I especially enjoy working with children, cosmetic dentistry, and Invisalign because most of all I love giving people a reason to smile. Outside of work I spend my time reading, exercising, snowboarding, and traveling.
