Benzydamine is a topical NSAID oral rinse used to relieve pain from inflammation of the mouth and throat.

Before taking benzydamine, tell your dentist if you: have severe liver or kidney disease, have an allergy to NSAIDs, have breathing problems like asthma or COPD, take other NSAIDs or aspirin, drink alcohol, take corticosteroids, take blood thinners, or have a heart condition. Also, if you are pregnant (especially in your third trimester or after week 20) or breastfeeding, inform your dentist.

How to use

Always take benzydamine as directed by your dentist.

Benzydamine is an NSAID, similar to ibuprofen which appears in many pain relievers, fever reducers, cough and cold medicines, and arthritis treatments. Always read labels before taking other medicines to avoid combining products that contain NSAIDs.

For pain: Follow the label directions for dosage and frequency. Take the medicine as needed and stop once the pain subsides. If your pain persists, ask your dentist about alternative options. Do not take extra doses.

Side effects

For some people, taking benzydamine can cause stomach problems or dry mouth.
